A Culture Medium from Groundnut Meal. Part II

چکیده
In a recent paper (Basil, Sen and Sen Gupta, 1945) we have shown that groundnut meal affords a culture medium for the growth of various intestinal organisms when it is digested with some proteolytic enzyme. The hydrolysate when further admixed with a trace of liver extract gives still better results. The latter observation led us to work on the growth of other delicate organisms, and the experimental data obtained are recorded in this paper. The broth.?A solvent-extracted meal as obtained by the process described by Basu and Sen Gupta (1944) was digested by papain in the presence of sodium thiosulphate according to the method previously described by us (Basu, Sen and Sen Gupta, 1945), and incorporated with 2 per cent as well as 5 per cent liver digest. The pH was adjusted to 7.8, and the oxidizable matter was 0.75 per cent. Bacteriological tests.?The following organisms were used to study the growth-promoting power of the broth: pneumococcus types I, II and III ; influenza bacillus ; gonococcus ; Streptococcus hcemolyticus and meningococcus. The results are recorded in the table. In working with the bazaar meal we thought that the processing during the extraction of groundnut oil by hydraulic press or the expressor process might destroy and|or produce deterioration in the nutrient substances of the nut, and that the broth obtained from it might not be suitable for the growth of the

A Culture Medium from Groundnut Meal
Acton el al. (1932) used a vegetable medium from a green variety of mung dal (Phaseolus mungo) for cultivation of the intestinal bacteria. Brewer (1943) suggested a mixture of soyabean and cotton seed or peanut meal for the preparation of a general purpose media using sodium sulphide as an activator; the sodium sulphide would readily generate sulphuretted hydrogen which by lowering the pH of th...
متن کاملEvaluation of amino acid composition and protein solubility profile of commercially available sesame and groundnut seed meal
Sesame and groundnut are important crops and a source of edible oil and protein. Amino acid content of both meals was analyzed and studies made on the protein solubility of defatted sesame and groundnut meal in aqueous solution over various pH and in various salt solutions. Valine, isoleucine, arginine, aspartic acid and glutamine were present in high concentration in both the defatted meals. A...

AIM This study was conducted to evaluate the growth performance and nutrient digestibility of guar meal, an unconventional protein-rich feed ingredient in kids in comparison to conventional groundnut cake. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 18 kids were randomly allotted to three groups, and T1 group was fed on basal diet, T2 and T3 groups were offered diet replacing groundnut cake at 50% and 1...

Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.) is an indigenous grain legume. It occupies a prominent place in the strategies to ensure food security in sub-Saharan Africa. Development of an efficient in vitro regeneration system, a prerequisite for genetic transformation application, requires the establishment of optimal conditions for seeds germination and plantlets development. Three type...
